Name Change

Been thinking of changing the name of my blog to be honest.....

Thanks to a few of the great religious politicans that we have in Iraq and their followers... the Kurds are being treated worse than in the days of Saddam......

I felt Iraqi after the fall of Saddam... finally proud of it but its not the same anymore.... now its a repeat of having to defend my people on a daily basis to ignorant people who don't even realise the history of the Kurdish nation, don't understand the creation of the actual state of Iraq....

Ethnic cleansing is a crime that needs to be reversed... it shouldn't only be the Kurds who are demanding this but every decent human being whose Iraqi and has a heart should understand...

Yesterday was the anniversary of Halabjah and then some Arabs still ask why do Kurds want so much........

Wanting to be governed by our own policemen...? So that a repeat of the last god knows how many years doesn't have....

Kirkuk being a part of the province of Kurdistan? why is that a big deal?

There is 25 million plus Kurdish people who have no country of their own.... there are more than 20 arabic countries and counting yet when it comes to any sort of benefits that Kurds may get its like ur talking about doomsday.... Grow up get educated read history and goto Kirkuk and find out in person why the city is Kurdish .......

I don't start getting angry when people say Baghdad is the heart of the Arabic world or its an Arabic city... cause thats true... even though almost a million Kurds moved there does not make it a Kurdish city.......

The politicans treat Kurdish politicans like idiots..... I thought the new government would be different but they are even worse when it comes to respecting our rights....

Rumours of Kurds mistreating Christians when 3 of the people on the Kurdish list are Christian Arabs....... so I don't know how many Christians were on the Sistani/Chalabi/Hakim list.....

I really had such high hopes buy people's lack of knowledge and intelligence and thinking about things from the other side have made me realise that as always Kurds who live in Northern Iraq are treated as though they are lucky to be part of Iraq........

How many suicide bombings have been done by Kurdish separitists in Iraq?
How much crime and looting goes on in the kurdish areas?
If you want to talk about we are all IRAQIS then lets please treat them all as IRAQIS

not make rules for certain things and break them for others..........

I am a strong believer that the people of the marshes in the south deserve compensation and that the environmental damage has to be reversed but the concept of ethnic cleansing is always immune to those that perform it .......... I swear some Iraqis are more obssessed with Palestinian's getting their rights than Kurds so how should that make any Kurd feel?

Sami,

It takes time until people change and start thinking differently. It all takes time. They need to learn a lot.

Remember, they have been hearing and learning about Arab Nationalism for 35 years! Do you expect them to forget it in a day.

The day will come - and I am sure of it - when we all Iraqis be treating each other without thinking of ethnicity, or at least care about Iraqis before caring about Arabs in general. But till that day, you have to be calm and contain yourself; and instead of reacting in the normal way, like anyone would do, try to educate them.

Dear Sami,
I didn't realize it was still so bad. I thought there was talk of federalism? Where each city governed it's own self, and the center government handled defense and stuff like that? That is what I like about America.

We have people of every background, and we accept them as people. Some people seem to think we don't, but their brains have been twisted by someone. I am sorry for them. There is so much to offer, if they would only open their eyes.

I agree with you that Iraqis should care about Iraqis, regardless of religion. Iraqi first, maybe Arab second if at all. We don't really consider that when making friends. I hope you realize that it took 2 generatios to achieve this. I pray it doesn't take that long for your country. God bless you.

Hello Sami,
The Kurds are being PRESSURED and SPUN and hung out to dry. It would be nice if just one of the Shia list would say a couple of nice things about their Kurdish friends (who kept THEIR hope of a free Iraq alive when Saddam was shooting their relatives) so soon after the Halabja anniversery. But this is hardball politics and gratitude for the past struggles has vanished.

Sami,

Take it easy. Iraq politics won't become perfect in an overnight. There's a lot of work to do.

I'm not sure who told you about Christians being treated badly by the Kurds. I'm guessing it's coming from AINA website. I stopped reading their website as they keep spreading this kind of rumor.

You need to understand people have different opinions. I think the Kurds are doing much better than other Iraqi minorities. Look at the Christians and how many of them left Basra and other cities and you'll realize it's not all roses for most minorities. The thing is everyone has become sensitive lately and take it personally. We need to think of Iraq as one entity and NOT bits and pieces divided among different groups.

Nice to see you back Sami.

Well the Kurds will always have my support. I know you are striving to have one united Iraq, but I’ve always supported an independent Kurdistan, but I know the rest of Iraq will never let that happen because of the oil fields in the north among other things. The Kurds have practically governed themselves all these years, and the rest of Iraq ought to be taking it’s cues from them. And I agree that the policing of Kurdish cities should be in the hands of Kurdish policemen and troops from the area. I don’t see why this should be an issue with government officials in Baghdad.

I do want to see a united Iraq succeed, but it will take much time and effort because people tend to hold tight to their traditions and religions.

Take care.

Good to see you back, Sami.

What you need is a constitution that spells out a peaceful process for withdrawal from the federation. If undoing the consequences of Britian's crazy map will solve the problems you face, it needs to be done through a legal process.

Study the breakup of Czechoslovkia following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the breakup of Scandinavia in the early 1900s.

There are probably other federated states in world where secession rules are spelled out.

Perhaps Kurds should be pressing for that kind of a mechanism in the new constitution and a timeline that guarantees a certain period of time before any movement to secede kicks into gear.

Sami, I am historian and let me say that if you're going to post try telling the truth. The Kurds are mistreating Christians in Iraq today and don't deny it.

Read the following: Armed men reported to be with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) attacked the Church of Mar Youhanna in Bakhdeda, northern Iraq, during Christmas Mass. The armed Kurds opened fire upon the local volunteer guards protecting the church. The armed group then fired indiscriminately towards the parishioners in order to terrorize them. Two of the volunteer guards were wounded by the attack. A formal complaint was lodged with the local Kurdish authorities but the file was later disposed of and the case ignored.

If you're going to talk about history, then lets talk about the violence and murders committed by the Kurds on the Christians in the northern villages of Iraq just a few centuries ago. One of the horrible crimes among many was when the Kurds surrounded one of the churches that the Christians had fled to; they went in and slaughter everyone there, hundreds of men, women and children, the priest whose life God spared lived to write about the horrific attack.

You may fool some people for a little while that haven't studied that history but the truth will pour out because God will let it come out.

So, cool off and don't pretend like you're such innocent and peaceful people.

I dont know why you are using the mistakes of past Kurds to insult Sami and his people. Thats like blaming every German today for the Holocost or every Christian for the slotter in Jeruslim during the first crusade.

People need to stop holding people responsible for the actions of their ancestors because if we dont then there will never be Peace because everyone holds a grudge against everyone else.

Hi, As part of a university degree, I'm doing some research into some search 'keywords' e.g. 'hobby activity' that people might use when trying to find friends online. I've used hobby activity to contact people who do this but I need more input. Any suggestions on where to look?
Thnx
